Riverway Learning Community offered a summer program to students
entering kindergarten through fourth grade. The eight-week program
consisted of STEM lessons, a writer’s workshop, environmental education
and weekly field trips to Whitewater State Park.
Following
Riverway’s ethos, older students helped younger students throughout the
program in activities such as building rafts, using iPads for
stop-motion film, designing air rockets and exploring outdoors. All
students worked together on a variety of projects that focused on
learning in a natural, holistic manner.
One of the more exciting
challenges the students faced was learning about about buoyancy. This
