A two-day paddling festival is coming to Port
Elliot in September, celebrating everything from kayaks to Stand Up
Paddle (SUP) Boards.
For the first time,
Horseshoe Bay will host an event of the Natural Gas South Australian
Ocean Paddling Series. The Alexandrina Council Paddlefest will be held
over the weekend of Saturday and Sunday, September 13 and 14.
This a two-day paddle festival features a long distance ocean surf ski race and SUP racing for competitors and families.
Paddle Sports SA's Steve Dalton said there will be more than $1500 in prizes for competitors over the two days.
"We
are very excited to partner the Alexandrina Council with this great
concept of the Alexandrina Paddlefest, a first for the area in providing
a popular pastime of Surf Ski Racing and Stand Up Paddleboarding in the
wonderful surrounds of Horseshoe Bay over two days.
"A great oppportunity to enjoy the surroundings with family and friends in the Alexandrina area," Mr Dalton said.
Competitors
will be able to enter in the various categories of Surf Ski, Double
Ski, Mixed Double, Ocean Ski, Light Plastic Ski, Sea Kayak, Outrigger
Classes and all Stand Up Paddle Boards (SUP).
Day one (Saturday, September 13)
will consist of a 6km circuit course of the Horseshoe Bay Port Elliot,
starting at 2.30pm. Paddlers follow a circuit course around marker
buoys.
